Summary: Remote Extender
Comment: The RCA D940 works as advertised. You do have to be very close (within 4ft)to the signal sender and your hand held remote. From the sender to the receiver the distance can be over 100ft traveling through walls from room to room and outdoors to indoors.

Summary: Spend a little extra for better range
Comment: Well, I guess the moral is you get what you pay for. The RCA was cheap, so I purchased the RCA Remote Control sender to allow me to control my A/V equipment which is hidden in the master bedroom closet. The TV is mounted on the bedroom wall.
Surprisingly the issue is not the range from the receiver unit to the transmitter. The issue is the sensitivity of the receiver to the remote controls. Originally, I had the receiver on the dresser about 8-10 feet from the bed. No signals were being picked up by the receiver. I tried 5 feet, then 2. At 2 feet I was finally able to get the receiver unit to reliably read my remote control signals. So now the receiver sits balanced on my headboard instead of across the room on the dresses - not the ideal solution. Note that this was not limited to one remote. This was for 3 different remotes for 3 different pieces of equipment.
Just in case it was a room issue, I tried the unit out in the basement. Same issue.
So, looking back, I would recommend paying a bit extra for an RF transmitter set up which may work more reliably.

Summary: Best I could find, but still not perfect...
Comment: I read several reviews before buying this remote extender, and this is the best I could find. There are the more professional models from specialized companies, but these are quite a lot more expensive and usually not RF. The two main issues with this remote are the range (like all these RF devices, the range drops dramatically as soon as the signal needs to go therough walls) and the receiver sensitivity. That second issue is kind of strange. The receiver cannot work if it is more than about 10 feet from the remote. If it is farther than that, the LED on the receiver still blinks when I press the remote, but the signal does not seem to get to the transmitter (the one near the sound system).
Overall it is still a very useful device, but there is room for improvement.

Summary: Imperfect Reception
Comment: Works as advertised for the most part... I have the device where the stereo it controls was, and it will occasionally miss a signal that would have been picked up. Somewhat of a minor annoyance since we use a programmable remote. If you can put up with that, it does transmit as advertised.
