Summary: Great TV
Comment: We purchased the TV back in February and had it for about 8 weeks. In late April we started to get red lines from top to bottom about every inch on the screen. We purchased the extended service plan from Best Buy and called them. They sent their service person out and he determined the TV could not be fixed. Best Buy wanted us to deal with Daewoo because of the manfacturers warranty. DO NOT DEAL WITH DAEWOO DIRECTLY, Daewoo will not give you a new replacement unit it is reconditioned.
When I informed Best Buy of Daewoo's replacement policy they picked up the broken TV and replaced it with a new one.
Even though we had this little problem the TV is fantastic and highly recomended. We are very happy with it and you will be too I'm sure......

Summary: Outstanding value for the price
Comment: I purchased this model on low-price guarantee from Best Buy for $1,999 vs. competitor's advertised price, so well-below BB's going rate for the screen. I shopped for about 4 months & compared this model to comparably-priced (MSRP:$3K-$4K) Samsung, Sampo, ViewSonic, Panasonic & Sony(smaller screen size in price range). The Daewoo picture quality in all aspects was superior to the $3.5K & other competitors & equal to many models that were far more expensive. I waited hoping to get it for under $2.5K & was shocked to find it advertised for $2K in 1/04, so took the step with Best Buy due to their service & lower extended warranty price. I installed & completed set-up myself with no problems with a system that includes Direct TV, VCR & DVD recorder. Daewoo instructions for proper satellite & component set-up were precise, easy to follow &, most importantly, accurate. I have not been disappointed in the unit in any way for the dollar spent. It operates quietly & provides wonderful color & picture clarity. The only downside to the unit is that it does not have picture-in-picture, but then very little is available in the entry-level price range that has PIP. I also purchased the companion DP-SP21 speakers, which can be very hard to locate, but I got them from Target at $120 for the pair(well below other advertised prices). They are not high output, but deliver surround-sound quality & no distortion at upper-end volume. All-in-all, a superior unit for the buyer that doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a plasma set-up.

Summary: BEAUTIFUL LIVING COLORS
Comment: Perfect with our new Bose 321 GS home entertainment system. My 10 yr old nephew was so entranced with the vibrant colors when we put on FINDING NEMO, that his father had to pause the screen to get his attention!! Children won't be the only ones so affected. We've been watching our entire DVD collection (over 100 in all) marveling at the beautiful and crisp pictures. Great price for quality that surpasses most of the more expensive models. So glad I got this :> !!!!!

Summary: Looks Aren't Everything.
Comment: Go check out the consumer reports Nov. 04. They rated fair on hd programming, good on dvd playback and good with regular TV via normal and high quality inputs. However, it did not get any Very Good or Excellent ratings. My own personal experience was negative. I purchased this TV and had problems with dark colors causing too much pixelation, fuzziness, and split second delays with character movement. Thus I returned the TV. Other negatives included no speakers and tough installation. The only thing I liked about the TV were its brights colors and panel design. However, I feel this is one of those "You get what you pay for" buys.

Summary: The Best for the Least
Comment: Purchased this plasma in November 2003 and I still think it is unequivocally the best plasma on the market.

At the time I probably would have felt a little more comfortable with a "better" brand name, but I just couldn't get over the great picture quality. Best Buy has all their plasmas lined up next to each other for comparison purposes, and I thought the picture on the Daewoo was by far the best in the store. I started taking my friends to various Best Buys in New York and they all agreed that the Daewoo had the best picture. So I "took a chance" and bought one and I couldn't be happier.

I bought the Daewoo to replace my Hitachi rear projection HDTV. While I do get about 15 HDTV channels from Directv, the other several hundred channels looked pretty fuzzy on the rear projection, even though the one I bought was very highly rated. I believe that most if not all HDTV's have a lot of trouble displaying non-HDTV signals. I learned the hard way--and ended up giving my HDTV away. (By the way, my HDTV channels do look fantastic on the Daewoo, even though it's EDTV. Maybe they don't look quite as outstanding as on an HDTV set... but the normal channels look so much better it's worth the tiny give up on the HDTV channels.)

Design-wise, the cabinet and stand are beautiful, especially compared to the gold Gateway (what were they thinking?). We get compliments on the Daewoo all the time--even when it's turned off!

The only bad thing I have to say about the Daewoo is that it is only available in a 42 inch size. (I am pretty sure the plants that make the plasmas are heavily constrained by the size of the glass sheets that they start with, so maybe Daewoo saves money by optimizing here.) According to CNET, the best distance for viewing a 42 inch set is about 6 to 10 feet away. Ours is more like 12 feet away, and it looks great to us.

As far as price goes, I think I paid $2,850 from Best Buy online with free delivery (Amazon did not offer the TV for sale at the time). A month or two later, CompUsa cut the price to $1,999. Unfortunately, Best Buy online doesn't have the same price match policy as the brick and mortar stores. However, I would say that even though I missed the deal of the century pricewise, I am still very happy with my Daewoo and would give it the highest possible recommendation. And even if it's not the absolute cheapest plasma on the market at this moment, it is pretty close and offers an outstanding picture.

How often do you find that the best product on the market is also among the least expensive?
