Summary: same old
Comment: We've had our HP for 2 weeks or so. We found out right away about the keyboard, after I first changed the batteries. I thought they might be down as we bought a shelf model, less than $1000. at Office Depot. I feel this is good, as it is burned in, so to speak and we could avoid the so-called "Black Screen" We like it otherwise, nice computer with great features, but we wish it all folded up flat, as we are snowbirds and it would be much more convenient

Summary: Going back to HP in 1 week's time
Comment: I loved this computer for about a week. I had already heard about the wireless keyboard issues and was expecting them, so I was already using a wired one. My mouse had no issues. However, after 1 week, the monitor went black. The speakers still work and there is power to the unit because the computer itself still works. I had to hook up and external monitor using the mini-vga port. Of course, this works but is not acceptable since the extra price in this computer is all in the touchscreen monitor which I really liked because the kids were much more interested in using the computer. HP phone help was useless. She asked me 4 times if the monitor was plugged in. Each time, I reminded her that I was using the computer and that this was an all-in-one with no separate power cord for the monitor. It is too late for a refund (this was supposed to be a xmas present, so i had waited a few months before finally opening it.), so they sent me a box to ship it for repair at no cost. Just a big hassle to lose the home computer just before the holidays.

Summary: Good, but I had a monitor hardware problem
Comment: The HP Touchsmart is a fun computer to use, and I wish it worked as advertised. I had problems with the keyboard working properly (easily solved by using a logitec keyboard instead), and the monitor kept turning off on me - requiring a restart. Also the Vista operating system is fun to use, but I found so many little things compatible with it that the fun ends pretty quickly. The touch screen is nice and convenient, but I wound up using it a lot less than anticipated. Overall a fun machine for a short time, but unreliable hardware and the troublesome Vista OS caused me to return the unit and purchase an imac.

Summary: An Enjoyable Computer
Comment: This is a fun computer and easy to use for those in the family who just want to surf the net, check e-mail and use the SmartCenter's features. The touchscreen is a great alternative to a mouse. The adjustable monitor and lack of tower makes it possible to use a regular desk or table, and it's great to have fewer cords to deal with. My only grumble is the buzzes, crackles and pops I've heard through the speakers and on the DVD that was burned and then played in another player. I'll keep checking the updates in case it's a soundcard problem.
