Summary: Great Product
Comment: I purchased these on a recommendation from a friend. I was looking at purchasing Bose QC3 but saw the JVC and compared the price. The JVC are definitely worth the value. I have used them for mowing the lawn and was able to here my MP3 player perfectly.

Summary: Great value, better price
Comment: Setup:
I was reluctant to spend too much money on noise cancelling headphones because my family was air travelling, and I wanted to purchase two (2) headsets so I was looking for headphones well rated and reasonably priced and a brand name I've had previous experience. Bose (Cadillac of noise cancelling headphones/sets) was way too much to spend and I felt that I could get a better value perhaps compromising quality only a bit.
Expectation:
That being said, I have never bought noise cancelling headphones so have no idea what to expect, (what's good and bad). I relied heavily on reviews from others here and would say most reviews seem pretty accurate.
The JVC is "open air" and Bose is "closed air" headphones. Excluding the electronics, I would imagine that this design difference may be the biggest factor of sound quality in using the noise cancelling and I guess for sound afficiandos, may be the biggest differential in a head to head comparison.
My experience:
I didn't use the headphones on the plane for but a brief moment, and I can only say that when the noise cancelling was turned on (with no music), I heard bearly any perceptable noise from the aircraft or extraneous noise. Any abrupt noise one could hear but deadened. The only way I can describe it was this strangely vapid dead drawing/attracting/sucking feeling in my ears. Being a child of the 70's and listening to my music very loudly, I've lost a bit of hearing so take this evaluation less seriously. However both my children and wife were extremely happy. Mom could sleep and watch in-flight video and kids too as well as vidgames. So much so that I thought two (2) were enough, but by the return flight, the three (3) were fighting over the two(2) headphones.
As far as sound quality, I listened to music on my ipod w/o noise cancellation and the sound quality was equivalent to my other medium priced head phones of around the same price point, (who can tell after so many years listening to Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, etc.)
As a product endorsement, I would say for the price of normally good non-noise cancelling headphones, this is an excellent value, even compared to other brands I guess....(see other reviews) I can basically buy three (3) JVC for the price of one (1) Bose. Volume control not on headset was not a factor for me, but then again, I have worn them but a couple of times. The case was great, no messiness putting the headphones away and easily fits into almost any bag. Another plus: the attachments to the plugs for ipod, plane, etc.
I hope this review helps you in your decision making process. Thanks for looking.

Summary: Better Than Expected
Comment: I purchased these headphones for use in an office environment. I work in a sea of cubicles and I was hoping these would help tune out the noise. These headphones do such a great job. I don't hear anything anymore (I even miss phone calls sometimes). I have coworkers that own the Bose equivalent headphones, and I had them try these on and they were wowed. The consensus around the office was that these are easily equivalent to anything anyone else has tried, and in most cases much better.
The sound quality is excellent as well. I'm no audiophile, but I do listen to music probalby 3-4 hours a day with these things on and they sound great and they're comfortable.
I've only had these for 2 months now, so I will wait to comment on the durability of them. They feel like they're made well, but time will tell.

Summary: Complete Satisfied with this headphones
Comment: Great sound and very good Noise cancelling. I used to have the Bose headphones and I can say that the JVC HANC250 headphones are cheaper and almost gives the same quality sound and noise cancelling than the Bose headphones. Highly Recommended.

Summary: Quality and Value
Comment: I bought these headphones based on a couple of reviews that I read. Now that I have tested them (I just got back from France) I can say that it was a solid purchase.
I originally wanted noise cancelling headphones because we have a sony portable DVD player that has quality picture but crap for sound. After reading the reviews I decided on these because 1) the reviews were good, 2) it does not cost as much as bose and 3) because one review said it was good for bass heavy music.
These headphones made up for the crappy sony sound on the portable dvd player, they are heavy on bass, have good sound quality otherwise and are one third of bose price. Bonus features are the carrying case and flight attachment it comes with. The carrying case has enough room for the headphones, my ipod (nano), a couple of extra batteries AND my wife's noise cancelling ear buds with a noise cancelling component that is as big as an ipod nano.
Perfect for travelling, noise cancelling feature works well(I have used them while mowing my lawn and watching movies on an airplane), comfort fitting, cord detaches completely... it does the job well at low cost. I believe this item is underpriced. ($118 was my purchase price.)
Issues: 1)If you turn your ipod to the max with bass boost it might have some distortion depending on the song, but most of my rap and hiphop are fine. 2) The noise cancelling will not cancel out all noise, especially conversations. So if people talk around you or babies are crying around you while you are flying, you will not hear the jet engine, but you will hear the people. Yet this did not disturb my music listening or movie watching.
I am very pleased with this item.
