Summary: Great Controller
Comment: I have owned this remote for the past year or so and I LOVE IT! I have gone from (No joke) 5 remotes down to just this one! I have not had any problems with it. I connected it to my Laptop (MAC), provided the software with the model numbers and had it set up within 10 minutes. You can set up the correct TV inputs, receiver inputs, and have all of the correct electronics set to on and off. This remote also works with my Time Warner Cable (Scientific Atlantic HD DVR) box without any problems.

I have seem other peoples reviews about the software taking forever to set up. I have not had these issues once it was installed and found it to be simple. Also, i have not had any problems with the charging Cradle/Dock not charging my remote when it is placed on it.

I would suggest this remote to anyone looking to replace the pile of remotes from their electronics. I have purchased two more as christmas gifts for family members.

Summary: Home Theater Made Easy
Comment: The 880 makes turning on your home theater easy as can be. No more having 4 remotes laying around so you can switch from TV, to DVD to video games, to the stereo. This remote is so easy to use my 73 year old mother just loves it.

Two things make it better then the other Harmony remotes (and I also own the 550 and love it). The first and most important to me is the base station. With the base you don't need to worry about ever needing to replace batteries. The other benefit of the base is having a designated place to put the remote away. If you have kids this is very important. The second thing I like about this remote is the bigger buttons. This makes it easier to use for older people. Of course you have, just like all other Harmonys, the easy to use one button activation of your home theater gear.

The only down side is the setup. It is not hard, but very time consuming. At least it is very time consuming if you are like me. It just takes time to get the buttons for each piece of equipment just the way you want them.

In short a great remote for your home theater. Not to mention a great present for parents and grandparents. Just set some time aside for set-up, and you will love this remote.

Summary: Hands down best remote!
Comment: I liked mine so much, I got one for my son-in-law. I bought mine a while ago at Best Buy and paid $225!! I have had other universal remotes but with my setup I still had to have a couple of the original remotes on the table to control everything. Plus, my wife couldn't do anything but turn the TV on. After the simple set up, it controled every function of every component and I was able to put all my other remotes away in the cupboard. In fact, all the normal day-to-day functions, like watching satellite through the TV and watching a DVD with the sound being controled by my audio/video receiver, are only a single push of a button. Now my wife can listen to her favorite CD without asking me for help!

Summary: Awesome, yet pricey.
Comment: I personally own 2 Harmony 880s. The first was purchased around the release of the model and was half price through an Employee Purchase Program. The second was for $99 during the most recent Black Friday sales.

I'm very pleased with them for the prices I paid. But, I don't really have much experience with other remotes with a MSRP of ~$250, so I don't have much to compare to.

I would give compatibility 5 out of 5 since I have yet to find a component I needed not in the online database. The online database even had my Monoprice HDMI switch and obscure PS3 IR-to-Bluetooth converter. Should the database lack a command, it can be quickly and easily programmed through the software and built-in IR sensor, using the original remote. I'm not sure there is any way for them to improve on that level of compatibility. Additionally, if the standard buttons aren't enough, you can map at least 6 pages (I've never gone above 2, so I'm not sure of the upper limit) of functions to the 8 buttons on the color screen

Ease of use for me is probably closer to a 5 out of 5. However, I am quite tech savvy. I would give it a 3 for the average user, because I don't believe it will be as easy for them. Adding a new device or activity generally takes me a good 15 minutes or so to get everything just the way I want it. However, once I've tweaked and tweaked and tweaked some more I'm always very satisfied with the end result and never have to go back unless something in my setup changes.

Cost benefit at my $99 purchase price would easily be a 5 of 5, but since normal price is $250 (which is absurd for any remote, I don't care if it can read my mind) it gets only 3.

Overall, I think it is pretty well built, although I would prefer the softer, rubbery buttons of most standard remotes.

As for ergonomics, again I feel they are overall good, but something more akin to TiVo's playback button arrangement would be nicer.

Summary: NEW HARMONY POLICY
Comment: 60 days for tech help starting Dec 1. If you change devices or have problems beyond that you will get zero support. When I called in because I was having technical problems the rep said "I shouldn't even be talking to you, I should just be referring you to the internet". This was on my first day I used my 880. Wow, I really regret giving a company that treats customers like that my money.
