Summary: Good idea, but poor quality product
Comment: Logitech Harmony 890 Advanced Universal Remote Control
The Logitech Harmony universal remote seems like an excellent idea; we were able to program easily, and there are many choices for the components one can set up with this universal remote. It took only a short time to link the remote with our Sony receiver, the DVD player, the DirectTV receiver and TIVO.
However, since we set it up, it has not been compatible with TIVO, and hence we are no longer able to successfully record programs via TIVO. Despite reprogramming it several times, it does not send the correct signals to TIVO to switch to the right mode, and hence TIVO is not recording as it should.
Then after a few weeks of sub-optimal performance, the remote itself failed (hardware); some of the buttons are now sticking so they send a continual feed to the unit, and then it locks up. The quality assurance process on this product was obviously inadequate. To have hardware failure after only a few weeks speaks poorly to the quality overall.
We will be asking for our money back. At a price point of $160-$200, one would expect much better performance. Logitech has not yet ironed out the problems with this remote, and needs better quality assurance.

Summary: Perfect Remote
Comment: I own 2 of these now, and have one for my main theater downstairs, and one for the master bedroom. It controls everything perfectly. I was able to hide away most of my components and use the wireless extender to control them. In the bedroom, all of my components are in the master closet and I have a Lutron Maestro IR light switch so I can also use the remote to control the lights.
This remote is a bit pricey, but it's worth it. The setup is extremely easy.
The only drawback so far was that to get my extender to work, I had to do a firmware upgrade. It's not that big of a deal, but it seems strange that it didn't work right out of the box without an upgrade.

Summary: Don't buy this, will break within one year and good luck getting a replacement
Comment: I purchased the Harmony 890 about 11 months ago for use with my home theater and bedroom LCD. It worked very well for about 11 months and I was close the purchasing an additional unit for another room.
Last week anything using the IR portion of the remote stopped working, devices uses the RF (remote extender) continue to work fine.
I called Logitech's version of "Customer Support" and tried to get a replacement. The support process requires several days of firmware updates, pointing a digital camera at the remote IR, etc., etc., to qualify for Harmony 890 replacement. "Customer Support" will force you to call back after you have gone through their steps, talk to a new "Customer Support" and repeat the troubleshooting over and over. After you do this their "Warranty Department" will review your request to see if you are worthy.
Do not buy!!!

Summary: Logitech Harmony 890 Advanced Universal Remote Control
Comment: It works great, has little bit of trouble with my optoma hd70 projector turns on/off ok but other controls don't work as labelled all messed up. Paired it with a z-wave dimmer for my media room. It worked as described no drama. Control buttons are a little less user friendly and some like the < and > are too small and hard to grasp. I use this with my Yamaha AV, dish network hd satellite recevier; setup was straight forward.
it is an expensive accessory, none the less the package from logitech with the RF receive unit which can be a $100 when bought separate made this a good deal and by the way unbeatable price with free shipping from Amazon.

Summary: Nice universal remote
Comment: I've been using the Harmony 890 remote for about a month now, and I like it. I bought it for the RF capability, which allowed me to put the cable box, DVD player and receiver in another room, so it doesn't clutter up the living room. Setting up the remote to control everything was simple.
The only thing I'm not sure I like is that everything is based on what you want to do. For example, you tell the remote you would like to watch cable, and it turns on the cable box and the television, and switches the TV input to HDMI-1. Then when you are done, hitting the power button turns everything off. The part I don't like is that if the next thing I want to do is watch cable again later, it still goes through the setup of switching to HDMI-1, even if it is already there. Not really a big deal, but it takes another 15 seconds or so. I just wish there was a convenient way to just switch on the TV, instead of having to select Watch Cable, and have it run through every step.
The RF function works great though, and I feel like I got a good product for my money.
