Summary: I am buying 2 more as backups !!!
Comment: My Home has ReplayTV, Sony, and Aiwa. I never had trouble find remotes for the Sony, but the Replay and Aiwa were always tricky. This is the first remote that operated all 3 right out of the box !!! I am very happy. I hope that they will make a backlit version. I am buying 2 extra just to have extra. Great price.

Summary: Magnavox PMDVR8 8-Device DVR
Comment: I have a directv Hughes TIVO, a JVC Amplifier, a Panasonic 30" HD widescreen TV, a Go-Video DVD/VHS player, and a Panasonic DVD recorder. This remote is the only one I have found in this price range that will satisfactorily control all these devices. I had to use the learning capability to get some of the features to work, but ultimately tweaked it to do everything I need. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Compare used on Directv DVR with TIVO
Comment: I purchased both the All For One URC 6131-6 and the Philips PMDVR8. I have a Directv DVR with TIVO from Philips. The standard TIVO remote does everything I want the way I want it easily except control additional device. I tried the PMDVR8 first. I was able to control almost all functions of each device. However, the keypad is laid-out in a non-intuitive rectangular grid pattern with small labels. You have to memorize the key positions to use it. Some of the TIVO function keys are redundant and it took a while to find the right sequence to navigate the TIVO functions. It does have learning modes if you need it. A backlit keypad would be handy. The PMDVR8 is a good backup if you need to run additional device rather than keep all your remotes handy. I setup the URC 6131 next. The keyboard layout is functionally intuitive with only a few extra buttons to remember or ignore. I am still getting used to the TIVO menu control sequences. This is a great remote if you need to control multiple devices. Nothing beets the original TIVO remote.

Summary: Excellent, then it flaked out
Comment: This is the first universal remote I've seen of any price that has all the buttons I need to control my A/V setup (the main one missing from all other remotes I've tried is the two guide buttons, one for channel, one for recorded programs for a DVR), though admittedly I have not seen everything out there.
Anyway, I was able to set it up to do pretty much exactly what I want, including having the volume keys always control my Teac AV receiver, except when the remote is in TV mode.
One day the TV and DVR modes stopped working. Everything else still worked. I tried reprogramming in the codes, but they just didn't work anymore.
At best, I could use the Learn mode to get some keys for minimal TV and DVR functinoality.
But I can no longer have the volume keys do what I want--they now always control TV volume except in Audio mode.
If this thing were stable, I'd buy another five or ten to keep in case I broke them physically. But since something electronic seems busted, I don't trust it anymore.

Comment: I am trying to get this remote to work with my PHILIPS 900-series reciever. I can get it to do most things, but not switch inputs. I can't beleive that Philips would build a universal remote that would not even control their own products. Has anyone else had similar problems? Am I doing something wrong?
