Comment: Samsung HL-R5668W - 56" rear projection TV ( DLP ) - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV

This TV is just great. The sharpness and the color cannot be beat. When watching sports the image keeps up with the speed of the play. There is no blurring.
The "white glove" service was excellent also.

Summary: Excellent LED TV.
Comment: I've had the unit for 4 weeks and it is an absolute powerhouse. It is much better than the DLP RCA that I had previously and I will not have to worry about replacing the lamp. Must evaluate before you purchase any TV and include the Samsung models in your assesment.

Summary: love it
Comment: Beautiful picture. I have my Xbox and PS3 run through my Samsung home theater amp using HDMI cables. I have my HD cable box running directly to the TV using an HDMI cable with an optical digital running from the cable box to the amp. This set up provides a fantastic picture with great sound. I have had no problems whatsoever with this television and I could not be happier. I highly reccomend it.

Summary: Good rear projection DLP set. The LED DLP technology merit, bowing and blue halo demerit...
Comment: To start off for a perspective, I have used this unit everyday since I purchased it in August 2007. It serves primarily as a main monitor for my computer that I have easily set up in the living room and acts as my main entertainment / relaxing workstation (thanks to HDTV resolutions making TVs as computer displays possible).

Out of the box, it is ready to use with little programming involved to set up the time, scan for channels, and your inputs. The included remote I have no problems with and the TV itself is solid with no defects here and there for the physical cabinet.

The standard mode that it is set to is a dynamic display and it provides a bright image for a rear projection. It is suitable even in a lit room. Colors are a bit bright but can be adjusted. I have mine set to a wide gaumut, cool colors, DNI, Digital noise reduction, and dynamic mode.

The operation of the menu software is very intuitive but it is limited in options. One can adjust the position of the screen to center it but cannot adjust the convex, concave, etc for it. Brightness, contrast, sharpness and tint can be adjusted manually but there is no individual color settings. There are preset cool and warm colors to select from but that is about it.

Haven't noticed much of a difference in game mode. But then again, I don't have a modern game console to use for that.

So looking at this display from a PC use standpoint, being a LED DLP is a plus because I don't have to worry so much about burn in out of the box or the expense of a large LCD display. A 10pt text is clear at the 1080p resolution and is visible across a 20 feet room depending on your eyesight. The color adjustment is handled by my computer but if you have other entertainment equipment, your best bet for fine tuning color is there since this TV doesn't have it.

Inputs pleanty for my use. It has two component video and two composit in, one composite out, a VGA port, and three HDMI ports (one of which is used in conjunction with a stereo jack for computer usage). The TV has an optical out for TV audio signals to be used with your receiver and a RS232 port for programming.

The included stereo sound is excellent. I almost forgot that it was just a plain stereo speaker setup within the TV at some points of listening. The SRS TruSurround XT was off but with it on the sound seemed to not change much. I wasn't that impressed with it and left it off.

For refresh rates as a PC monitor, one can decide between 30Hz or 60Hz and thats about it. I left mine at 60Hz for the computer setting and was ok with that. PC gaming on such a monitor is a joy. It makes me wonder why in hell no one else is considering such a setup. Maybe people prefer the simplicity of consoles. but I will save that discussion for later.

Because this is a rear projection set, its viewing angles doesn't compare to a plasma display. Its vertical viewing angles has the top part of the screen somewhat dim and its horizontal viewing angles are acceptable but I wouldn't expect myself to see anything well from the sides. Standing up and watching while this set is on a 22" high stand is acceptable as well as sitting on a typical sofa (or in my case now, a comfy sack).

Now the drawbacks of this unit and of which I am currently working to have it remedied within the 1 year included Samsung warranty. The top edge of the display slightly dips and bows down in the center. That same effect is found at the bottom of the screen too but it isn't as bad compared to the top. And the biggest issue of this particular set is the blue squareish halo effect that only appears if there is a dark scene with some bright spots specifically in certain locations to invoke the blue halo and can appear in any of those scenes. I hope this can be fixed as this is annoying over time.

If cost is a concern and you want a HDTV and space is not an issue, this is a TV to consider. Again, take this line with a grain of salt as I myself haven't used this strictly as a TV so I cannot comment on the QAM tuner. As a nice big computer monitor, if you have the space it is a good display if the issues are fixed. Otherwise, it is pretty expensive to get the same real estate screen with going with a LCD display.

Summary: Great DLP Television
Comment: This television lives up to the hype and great reviews it receives on all sites.
It delivers a great, crisp picture; has good sound (although with a TV this size, you would almost definately use some sort of home theater system); and looks amazing with its piano black finish.

My set had some dust trapped inside that was clinging to the inside of the screen. A call to Amazon and Samsung resulted in a Samsung tech out the next day to remove the dust. While it would have been great to not need a service call so soon, it went smoothly. No complaints.

Kudos to Amazon for an amazing price, fantastic service, and teaming up with a great shipping company.
Eagle (Ceva) Logistics took the television out of the box, brought it up a flight of stairs, put it on my stand, and made sure it worked.

I am very happy so far, and expect to remain so for some time.

I purchased the television with a Platinum Mastercard, which extends the MFR warranty an additional year, in the event anything goes wrong in year 2 of ownership. Something to think about if you have such a card. (I believe Visa and Amex have similar warranty extensions as well for some of their cards).

Thank you, thank you, thank you Samsung for a great TV, and Amazon for the best price out there.
