Summary: Nice system
Comment: Overall I am very pleased with the sony davhdx500's sound. Very good for listening to cd's, dvd's and tuner. The video is very good. I use it with a Toshiba 65" dlp and get an excellent picture when it upconverts a standard dvd movie to 1080i.
The system is very easy to set up. The speaker wires are color coded and have a plug in for the back of the box. The auto sound setup was easy and accurate. I paid $369 with free shipping for the system and have found it to be a very good value. I am not an audiophile and don't have to have the latest high end stuff.

Summary: Installation Problematic
Comment: System is designed for front installation in small room only. Speaker wires are short and terminated with proprietary connectors, which can not be purchased separately from Sony. For projector system installation with sound system at rear of room, speaker wire lengths are all wrong. Installation of longer, heavier gauge speaker wires would have been easy if the system used non-proprietary connectors, or the proprietary connectors could be purchased separately. In trying to make installation easier, Sony made it both harder and more expensive.

Summary: A long awaited Reward!
Comment: I have spent the last year on and off converting my existing garage to living and office space. The reward for the hard work was to set up a home theatre system. I searched for the past year and picked the Sony systems. My new 40" LCD Bravia with the theatre package is wonderful.
The system is very easy to set up - I had wired my room already for surround sound speakers. Hook up took less than an hour and the speakers are light weight and easily hung from the wall. The set up was so easy and microphone that set up the sound made a big difference in the speaker output.
Only notes on the system - Speakers are lightweight and do not feel that sturdy. Expected a more solid feel. Front speakers are very tall. I fit them hanging from the wall. Again OK, but not as streamlined of look for my room.
We love the sound and feel of our movies. Simply amazing how these systems have improved.
Enjoy!

Summary: Great combination of design and features
Comment: I have the HDX501 (costco/sams club) which is this model with the wireless speakers and ipod dock.
Sound quality is great. Assembly took 20 mins (keep a screwdriver handy), setup took less than 5 minutes. It auto calibrates the sound based on your speaker setup.
HDMI control (HDCP) works with my Panasonic plasma, which means if I put a DVD into the Sony, the Panansonic TV switches to the HDMI input on the TV to start showing the DVD.
The remote control is great and well designed (compared to other HTIB's).
Simple to operate, great sound.
