Summary: Mega Vibration in Subwoover
Comment: This unit is just "OK." While it handles regular TV and radio decently, you can't have anything with big bass. That leaves out most music these days. The subwoofer vibrates and you will be annoyed. The previous reviews are correct in saying that it gives no room to grow. I can plug my iPod into my TV, but not the audio tuner. UH... ok. I'm currently on a search for a decently priced iPod compatible system. I guess you really do get what you pay for. It's good for entry level but if you know you'll need more later, don't bother.

Summary: Bulky Receiver! Small Sound!
Comment: This receiver is bulky and not very modern looking. It looks like an old Transistor Radio sitting with the rest of my newer hardware.

It seems very week for supposedly pumping out 800 watts. Compared to my Home Mini Stereo witch is only 250 watts its weak. My LCD TV is just as loud when you run the receiver in Dolby or progressive modes. If you buy it prepare to run it on the multiple mode to get much sound from it.

If you want a Home Theatre that will blow you away, stay away from this one. I Give it a 3 because I should've known better to buy a cheap Sony.

EDIT:2-24-08

Also, I'll post my answer to a question from another buyer:

Orange Digital or Optical it doesn't really matter, I've tried them both. This system is way underpowered to handle movies. I actually watch my movies with the volume almost maxed. I suggest you do what needs to be done and sell it and buy another. I myself need to quit procrastinating and do this myself; I just need to find a sucker like myself to buy this cheap Sony from me.

Summary: Just what I needed
Comment: I was looking for a cheap surround sound system for HD movies and Xbox and PS3 gaming. I picked this system up from Best Buy for $139. It was one of the few theater in a box systems that had no disc drive. I don't need a disc drive, I have plenty of those. Even though it is not capable of TrueHD and DTS Master it's plenty for my apartment. I can shake the walls. I normally play my volume 36-42 for Dolby Digital and DTS and volume at 45-50 for Dolby ProLogic II 5.1. It is important you have your input devices configured properly to get optimum sound and you also need to use the movie and music sound packages. In addition to the games and movies I also hook up my mp3 player and my laptop through the tv and they all sound marvelous. My only complaint is a lack of a coaxial port to give me another digital hook up. I don't expect to get HDMI at this price but I do expect to get optical and coaxial, not just optical. As it stands I have to switch out my Xbox and PS3 opticals. It takes about 10 seconds. 5.1 analog audio would be a nice addition also.

Summary: Installed to spec
Comment: Installed in living room with centered couch and real speakers installed above ears and behind. front speakers installed 1ft from each side of Sony Bravia 40inch LCD TV center channel placed on top of receiver on shelf under TV. Connected the TOSLINK Optical cable to Playstation 3 and receiver. After using the AUTO Calibration feature for setting up the speakers played Fantastic Four on a BLU-Ray Disc. Intro scenes the sound was very full and bass was deep. Soundsound speakers worked as expected by hearing the spaceship and meteor wooshing sounds come from behind.

Remote Control has plenty of features. Already configured to work with Sony TVs. Optional nameing feature, able to rename inputs that display on front screen. Good feature since the Optical cable is mapped to VIDEO 2 and the coaxal cable is mapped to DVD. Changed mine to Playstation 3 and Comcast for those two ports. Product comes with rubber feet if you choose not to hang speakers. Center channel does not have the plastic design like the surrounds do to be hung up on the wall.

Cons: Speaker wire is poor quality and also already connected to the speaker end. I replaced the four surround speakers with 16 Gauge Belkin wire. Belkin PureAV AV23001-100-WH 100-Foot 16-Gauge Speaker Cable & Pins (White)

PROS: Great price for the up to date highest quality bare minimum. (One TOSLINK Optical port) & (Dolby Digital)
