Summary: Almost Perfect
Comment: I bought one of these for my home theater and it works so well I bought another one for my casual viewing living room set. There's already plenty of reviews here so there's not much I can add, but I'd just like to say this remote offers just about everything one could wish for in a programmable remote control, and it's super cheap. The only thing I don't like about it is that it only has one pair of buttons for FF/rewind. I've remedied this by using those buttons as true FF/rewind, and I've abused the channel buttons for chapter/track select. It works OK, but I'd prefer to have separate buttons for those functions. Hey maybe next time around Sony will add these buttons and then they could practically put Harmony out of business.

Summary: A lot of remote for the price
Comment: The inexpensive RM-VL600 is an excellent substitute for up to 8 remotes. Unlike most low-cost universal remotes, which either don't have a learning feature or have such a small amount of memory that you can only teach them a few keys, the RM-VL600 offers ample storage.
The setup procedure is simple and clearly explained step-by-step in the manual. By default, the volume and mute buttons send commands to your TV if a video device is selected and to your amp if an audio device is selected, but you can very easily set it to always use the TV's or the amp's controls if you put all your audio through the TV or the receiver (if you have a home theatre setup).
If you're looking for a capable but inexpensive universal remote, don't look any further. If you need RF capability, consider adding the Next Generation Remote Control Extender which works very well in this remote.
Highly recommended.

Summary: cheap and does what you want!
Comment: I looked at the higher priced kinds (Harmony) but just couldn't see spending that much on a remote. And now I am happy I didn't. This does everything I want. It was easy to program. It learns all buttons that it doesn't automatically program with the device code. I wish it had a few more buttons but you can work around that. And yes, not everything is where I'd like it, not all the buttons are labeled like I'd like, etc. It takes a bit of adjustment time. All in all, for the price, this is a great product.

Summary: Great Learning Remote
Comment: I bought this remote because I have a SONY TV and a SONY DVD/VCR combo. Being that it is also a SONY, I though that it would communicate seamlessly with both. It didn't. Having said that, I am glad I bough it.
The downs: It communicates seamlessly with my SONY TV (even the device button turns it on without having to press POWER) but the combo is another story. It seems that (and I checked this online) this "universal" remote (although from SONY) DOES NOT have their own combos in its memory! So no matter what you do, you can't find a code for any combo, even SONY.
The Ups: I forgot to mention - this remote CAN LEARN; and there are no limits to how many functions. To work your combo, all you have to do is (with the original OEM remote) teach this one all the needed functions. You can do this from the DVD as well as the VHS device function. Don't listen to people that say this cant be done! I did this and I couldn't be happier. When I buy a converter box and other stuff in the future, it will certainly come in handy.
P.S. There are also four special buttons that can be taught up to 16 functions (in a row) each! One of mine works for the TV menu (it does MENU, RIGHT, RIGHT, DOWN, RIGHT, DOWN, DOWN, MENU.)

Summary: Does what it's supposed to do.
Comment: I'm pleased with this remote -- it replaces Sony's top-of-the-line computer-programmable unit that I could no longer use because Sony refuses to update it to work with Vista.
So far as I can tell, this unit does everything it's supposed to do. If I had to quibble, I'd say that the transport buttons (play, stop pause, etc.) are too small.
