Summary: For a 25 Dollar headphone, $125.00 sound
Comment: I listen mostly to Jazz, Phish and the Grateful Dead - music with lots of dynamic range. These headphones, once burned in, sound nicer than my 200.00 grados. That might be because they are very very comfortable. I forget I am wearing them. The highs seem crisp and detailed and the pair has very nice bass response without being boomy. The sound is warm. If you want accuracy for under 30 dollars these are for you. If you want headphones that sound bright, look elsewhere.

These have a lifetime warranty. If they break, you just toss them in the mail and send them to Koss and you get a new pair. You can't beat that.

Summary: nice but overpriced
Comment: I really enjoy these for casual listening. the bass is very relaxed and mellow, and the soundstage is fairly open. basically meaning it sounds much more like regular loudspeakers, instead of tiny tin cans like most other cheap headphones. they are not fatiguing on the ears which is nice. Most importantly these are fairly forgiving on cheap source material. will not expose every flaw viciously like other cans. Also another user noted that these had extreme bass. this is hardly the case at all.

the construction is sub par. cheap plastic, the cloth headband ripped off easily. the chord died fairly easily. i upgraded it with 18awg speaker wire. actually improved performance. when i redid wiring i made it so that the cord only passed through left side.

I am a serious music listener. i am putting these against Sony's Mdr-7506 headphones which pretty much set the standard. I used a dedicated headphone amp, and plug my ipod in using the line out.

I got them for dirt cheap so i can really forgive their shortcomings. But there is no competition between these and something like a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones. Don't expect a miracle. I like them simply because they very light, and easy on the ears. I would rather save up for serious cans like something from beyerdynamic or high end sony. they will last a long time, and they have accurate music reproduction. Nady makes the DJH-2000 headphones give these a shot in this price range. got these for a friend and i was blown away.

Comment: I really recommend buy this headphone. Excellent sound output at this price. There are 2 reasons for me not giving this product a 5 star rating is..

1) Little too bulky although collapsible.
2) There is no microphone built with it. Other products like Planotronics have microphones along with the headphone at the same price.

Summary: Not perfect, but comfortably close.
Comment: I actually owned a pair of these before, which I bought at our local Radio Shack. Unfortunately, I managed to close my font door on the cord through my own stupidity, then proceeded to tug on it like an idiot until it severed, hence requiring me to buy a replacement pair, which is, to an extent, beside the point, but not quite.

See, I loved these headphones enough to gladly buy the exact same make to replace my lost pair. They might not jolly the rogers of really hardcore audiophiles, but for a casual music fanatic like my self, they're exemplary. Certainly the best headphones I've ever owned. The sound is clear, and certainly surpasses the quality of any cheapo pair you could ever buy. I've found that it retains sound quality even at high volumes, and the over-the-ear design is both comfortable, and forms a certain barrier against outside noises. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten lost in my music during a long walk around the lake, or to work, thanks to these. Interestingly enough--and this might sound silly--but my favorite part though, has to be the mesh hammock. I have a peculiar head shape, and the nerves of my scalp and skull are so sensitive that even light pressure can give me migraines. Regular headphone bands are painful, and padded ones, only slightly less so (usually I find the cushion to be stiff, uncomfortable, and only a source of added pressure, but the unique mesh really gives the sensation that you're not wearing them at all. Even it's slightly clunky appearance is endearing in my opinion; my huge silver UR40s are my most noticeable fashion statement, and everyone knows me as the girl who wanders Magnolia with her headphones.

I'll probably trade up to something better eventually, I'm sure, when I have the time and money to really go shopping, but for now, the UR40s are all I could ever ask for.
