Summary: Good Remote
Comment: This remote was very easy to setup and use. You just program everything from you computer and it will update your remote and extender. If you are an average experienced computer, this will be a piece of cake.

Summary: Review on Harmony 890
Comment: Had trouble at beginning. Spent one and a half hours on phone with first line help and then 20 minutes with tier 2 to get unit working. Tried to add features on my own, couldn't get them to download, then spent 45 minutes with tier 2 where it was determined unit was defective. They immediately sent me out a new one. Got new one, programed it and it works great. I would recommend this for anyone who wants the RF feature of home theater remote control.

Summary: Look elsewhere
Comment: Product is poorly designed and doesn't even fit properly in its charging cradle. The remote would beep intermittently while in the cradle due to poor electrical contact. The first battery lasted less than 6 months and the second battery lasted less than 3 months. Replacement batteries are around $35-$40. The LCD started to fade in less than 1 year.
The software is poor and always wants to connect to the RF Extender prior to programming the remote. This is a pain in the neck as the RF Extender is a cabinet with the A/V equipment and needs to be unplugged and connected to the computer.
Logitech support has been completely unresponsive and I would never by another product from Logitech.

Summary: LOGITECH HARMONY 890
Comment: My Logitech Harmony 890 allowed me to eliminate 5 separate hand held controls into one unit. This event may have saved my marriage.
Set-up was easy and Logitech's help desk solved a problem in less than 10 minutes. The big selling point is the ability to control all systems through my enclosed cabinets vs keeping the doors open. This is needed in all households.

Summary: Great universal remote
Comment: I have used a couple of bargain universal remotes and I was always reluctant to purchase the high dollar models for fear of complicated set up and maintenance. Logitech has set the bar for universal remotes. The set up is very easy and the remote allows you to set up activities which allow one button change over to different home theater set ups.
The radio signal method has spoiled me to no end. I cannot use a normal remote because I have to point it at the device. The logitech can control the components from just about anywhere you would want. I have remote speakers set up outside and I can control my iPod from outside (about 30 feet from the receiver and through a couple of walls.)
I have owned this product for about 13 months and I can appreciate the reviewers complaints about the glitches. However, the 890 can be updated via the web and simple USB interface. Lately I have had no problems with the remote.
MY ONE COMPLAINT: When trying to charge the remote, I have difficulty getting a solid connection to the charging station. It can be very frustrating and I have not found a tried and true method for connection every time. Sometimes I am forced to place an additional object on top of the remote to provide the weight necessary to create the connection to the charging station.
