Summary: For smaller than average size ears
Comment: Just purchased these earphones and while they work very well for the type of noise I need to reduce (e.g. riding lawnmower, air compressor), the ear pads are for small ears. They are quite uncomfortable for my ears which are about average size. They do not meaningfully reduce spoken sounds so a noisy seat mate on an airplane will be just as obtrusive.

Summary: A little tight on my head and they squeak when I touch near the noice cancelling microphone
Comment: I just received these today and I think they sound pretty darn good. I sit in my cubicle under the air conditioner which is roaring pretty good and with the music playing cannot hear the air conditioning at all. Without music, I hear a faint hissing sound.
The circumaural earcups are a little small and I have medium to small sized ears. I have to wiggle the headphones to get them off my ear lobes. When I do that my left hand touches near the noice cancellation microphone. The way I understand it, the microphone takes the sound and then applies an opposite soundwave to the sample to cancel out the ambient noises. So when I interfere with that, it squeaks in a quite annoying way. Though in normal usage, I doubt I will hear it much.
Overall, I think the price I paid (<$90) is well worth it. I have many pairs of headphones (Etymotic Research ER-6 and ER-6i, Audio-Technica ATH-AD700, Sennheiser HD580, Altec Lansing AHP712 headphones with Active Noise Reduction) and these are very listenable. In comparison with the Altec's, there's no comparison - these have better noise reduction and clearer sound.
I'm pretty sure I've found my airline pair with my ER-6i's.

Summary: Quite happy
Comment: The ear cups are a little small for my big ears, but they are still comfortable and the noise canceling works well. The sound quality is as good as I can ask for, and the price was right. Altogether a good buy.

Summary: RP-HC500 Noise Cancellation Headphones
Comment: Great headphones. Similar style and performance to a Bose set I used to have, all at a fraction of the cost.

Summary: RP-HC500
Comment: Noise cancelling works well for the price. Works best on engine/air conditioning type noises 85-90%. Even blocks 60-70% of your own voice, really weird. Fairly sturdy. You better have tiny ears as they don't surround without touching. I have average size ears and they are 90% comfortable for a few hours.
