A 48-inch screen may not sound "small" to you, but it's fairly small for a rear-projection TV (RPTV). The KP-48S70 is Sony's least expensive RPTV of this size for 1999, which might please your wallet. Despite its size, the KP-48S70 is by no means stripped-down. The comb filter is a rear-projection TV's most important picture enhancement. The KP-48S70's 3-line comb filter isn't as good as are 3D-YC filters at eliminating artifacts, but it still beats an analog version. Sony provides a color temperature control. You won't find a protective screen on this model, which might be a problem for those with destructive kids or pets. Most videophiles prefer to do without one, because it tends to cause glare.Sony's dual-tuner PIP (picture-in-picture) lets you view one smaller picture within the larger main window. The small box can be moved anywhere around the screen. This TV's remote control isn't backlit, but it does operate other Sony A/V gear. An audio system with 15 watts x 2 channels and matrix surround sound completes the package.
