Summary: What a piece of sh....
Comment: I cannot begin to tell you how poor the product support is for this piece of junk. It will NOT work with an OfficeJet of any kind - forget even trying to set up the printer as a multi-function device. I couldn't even get it to recognize the printer via USB cable.

No tech support to speak of, and the manual is pure garbage. Returning tomorrow to try a real brand.

DO NOT BUY THIS P.O.S.

Summary: Useless Tech Support
Comment: I contacted tech support with an issue involving transferring a 4.37gb file.
The file crashes at 2.40gb. The person handlng the call couldn't help me. He indicated it would be two days before a high level tech support could get back to me. This nic card is used on a Mac using Leopard operating system and is listed as a compatible card.

It was suggested I email tech support with my problem if I wanted an expidited answer to my problem.

So I did just that, wrote an email explaining exactly what I was experiencing.

I got an expidited answer indicating their product doesn't support Mac.

Their tech support didn't even attempt to solve my problem.

I will be returning both TrendNet PCITXR Cards.

Their support is amongst the worst I have experienced.

Summary: Beware, doesn't work will all printers
Comment: One of the best examples of what's wrong with tech today. The Trendnet TE100 P1U packaging states that this print server will make "any USB printer into a network printer." False. After confronting Trendnet's tech support about why the TE100 P1U print server did not work at all for me, I was told that it doesn't support my type of printer! My type of printer is a Canon inkjet. As we know, Canon is a very rare and exotic brand of printer (sarcasm intended).

I was told the "TE100-P1U cannot apply on GDI type, Host type, Cart(Cannon), and Samsung(printer language)." So aside from Canon and Samsung, which printer will this work on and which will it not work on? Trendnet doen't say. Going to the Trendnet website is no help either as it does not say anywhere what type of printer (what's a GDI type of printer anyway) the TE100 P1U will or will not support.

When I asked to speak to a Trendnet manager about this problem, I was told that someone would contact me. Of course no one from Trendnet ever did contact me.

UPDATE: now after raising this issue of the TE100 P1U not working, the marketing messages on Trendnet's website now states the the TE100 P1U print server "makes virtually any USB printer into a network printer." I guess their lawyers made Trendnet insert the word "virtually" into their product description. However, Trendnet's website still does not state exactly what type of printer the TE100 P1U will work on.

The Trendnet TE100 P1U doesn't even make a good paperweight.

Summary: Please Do NOT buy this junk
Comment: Oh my goodness this is a piece of junk. First off, nowhere on the box did it list what printers work with it. It makes it sound like anything works with it on the box.

Second, of the three printers in my house only one would work and of course it wasn't the one I bought it for. The other two were incompatible.

So I decided to move a bunch of stuff around in the house and get this thing working so I could use a laptop that we were using as a print server only for something else. I followed all the directions, had the correct drivers, etc.

It took about 3 attempts to get it to work. It was a painful process but shared it and got four computers in the house to print to it. The next day it wouldn't work. The internal web server link (web page) that you set it up with showed that all was well but not a single one of the computers would acknowledge that it existed, though they did the evening prior.

I started over, reset everything and it worked for two days this time.

I started over yet again and it worked for less than one day.

This is a piece of junk and not good for anything at all unless you need two more green Christmas lights on your tree.

Summary: Decent Print Server For The Price
Comment: This compact little print server seems adequate and I've no complaints thus far except for the manual. It's worded correctly and the grammar is surprisingly good, for a change, and even the pictures and diagrams are helpful. However the instructions are flawed and I'm not sure how you could set up a printer via the method they describe. To save you some effort, if you're pulling your hair out with your 'P1U, instead of adding a printer as a "Network Printer", try this...

Add Printer
Local Printer [uncheck Auto Detect]
Create A New Port > Standard TCP/IP Port
Enter your print server's IP address [out of the box, mine was 192.168.1.60]
Choose your printer driver

That should do it. I'm reading a lot of bad news from folks who've tried to contact TrendNet's Tech Support or find useful info from their website, and also the 'P1U seems to be incompatible with most HP printers which isn't indicated anywhere so good luck if you've got an HP. Other than those particulars, which didn't affect me, I'm pleased with my 'P1U...so far. Just remember - you get what you pay for. Don't expect BMW performance at a Kia price.
