Toshiba's 27-inch flat-screen tube TV offers clean component-video inputs, front and rear AV connections, a 181-channel tuner, and several features to enhance picture quality, such as an Invar Shadow Mask, 3-line digital comb filter, and black level expander. The FST Pure Fine Pitch "purely flat" picture tube eliminates unwanted reflections that occur with conventional tube TVs. It also delivers a broader viewing angle along with the enhanced picture linearity necessary to produce accurate, lifelike images. An Invar Shadow Mask enhances color reproduction, and its 3-line digital comb filter with vertical contour correction provides more accurate processing of RF and composite-video signals for a sharp, clean picture.

A double-baffle speaker system (5 watts per channel) provides improved stereo sound reproduction without connecting additional speakers, while the StableSound system maintains TV volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. MTS stereo with dbx allows for full stereo sound, as well as access to SAP (Secondary Audio Program) audio for bilingual or secondary audio tracks. In addition, the TV's onscreen display menus are available in English, Spanish, or French.

The 27AF44 features component-video, composite-video, and S-Video inputs on the rear of the unit, with additional front-panel AV for quick and easy connection of video games or a video camera. It also includes a headphone jack. It has a sleep timer, and both channel locks and video input source locks as well as V-Chip technology for parental control.
